The majority of U.S. adults are audiobook fans. In fact, Americans love audiobooks more and more every year! Fifty-three percent of adults say they’ve listened to an audiobook in the past year, up from 45 percent in 2022. That means a whopping 140 million Americans are tuning in to audiobooks!
Why do we love audiobooks? Let us count the ways.
1. Audiobooks let you multitask. In the spirit of Mary Poppins’ spoonful of sugar, audiobooks make day-to-day chores – washing dishes, folding laundry, making dinner – much more fun. One or two chapters make the medicine go down!
2. Audiobooks go where you go. Queue up your audiobook in the car between errands or while walking the dog. Gripped by an exciting plot twist? No, you do not mind heading back to the grocery store for more eggs.
3. You can take a break from screens. So much of life these days happens on a screen. But audiobooks? No screen required! Listen on headphones, a portable speaker, your car’s sound system…and give your eyes some downtime.
4. Audiobooks are widely available. There are options aplenty for purchasing audiobooks or selecting a number of titles (or unlimited) with a monthly subscription plan. Explore Audible, Apple Books, and Spotify. Or, support your local bookstore with Libro.fm.
